5 ways to save even more energy.

Published

StrikoMelter shaft melting furnaces are designed to melt metal in the most efficient way possible. They are also built to last. If you’ve had yours for a while, modernization options are a good way to optimize performance, extend service life and boost energy savings. Here are 5 you might want to consider.

Re-line to ramp up savings.

No matter how well designed and constructed a furnace lining is, constant heat and impact from charging material will take its toll. Which means that after years of use, relining your StrikoMelter furnace is probably the very first most effective thing you can do to boost its energy footprint – we’ve had customers lower gas consumption per ton of molten metal by up to 40%!

Cost cutting served on a plate!

Having to replace a furnace lining becomes inevitable at some point. But in the meantime, there are ways you can extend your lining’s lifespan. Upgrading the shaft of your StrikoMelter with steel plates is one. These steel plates, assembled in the melting shaft by a special system, protect it against charging material damage meaning your lining stays at optimal efficiency for longer. They can extend service life for refractory material in the shaft by up to 30%.

Reduce consumption with laser precision.

A melting shaft that is full always will achieve optimum energy consumption. This is because hot waste gases from the melting process are used to preheat the charging material in the shaft prior to the actual melting process. Fitting a laser scanner to permanently monitor filling levels is therefore a big help. When no material is detected in the upper part of the shaft, the scanner automatically triggers a new charging cycle. It’s easy to install and could improve the efficiency of your melting by up to 10%.

Cover-up to stop the energy escaping.

Free melting - usually carried out once a shift to facilitate dross removal and furnace cleaning -requires the furnace to be on full power for a period. Shortening this essential process will save you energy and money. Fitting of hot gas baffle shaft cover make this possible. A closed hot gas baffle has a not insignificant positive effect in standby mode or, for example, in weekend operation, which can save up to 10-15 % of the energy used in this operating mode.

DISCOVER even more opportunities to save.

Our Monitizer | DISCOVER platform allows you to access real time StrikoMelter performance data via your browser (on any device) and set up alerts to notify you of KPI parameters exceeding or falling short of specified limit values. This allows for timely troubleshooting, helping you avoid unnecessary and costly downtime. You can also track your furnace's energy performance to - for example - spot when a refractory relining can be beneficial.

What kind of ROI could you achieve with modernizations like these? With our 5-step plan, you don’t have to guess. We’ll assess your furnace and recommend measure to achieve the ROI we agree on. Watch this video to find out more, or email to
